6. Collaboration

All of the 15 network teams are experienced in international collaborations, and intense, regular scientific contacts already exist, originated for example in the previous TMR networks Hyperbolic Conservation Laws and Asymptotic Methods in Kinetic Theory . The new network will be the basis for expanding these collaborations to a strong European research and training activity in the fields of hyperbolic and kinetic equations. In order to fully integrate the sub-teams which may have less experience with RTNs such as the groups from Poland, Israel and the Czech Republic, these are integrated as satellites into teams with a particularly strong RTN experience. Senior researchers from network partners will intensify their visits to these teams and Post Docs from these teams will be actively invited to spend training months at the coordinator's team, also to be trained in European project management, which helps to facilitate the collaboration.

The teams will interact and collaborate on several levels:

Organization

On an organizational level, all the groups have a representative in the Assembly of Team Organizers (ATO) and the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). General agreement was obtained for the composition of the smaller committees for efficient management : the 6 member Steering Committee, and the 8 member Training Committee which is balanced also by regions.

Collaboration and Information via the Internet

In the HYKE community the use of modern means of telecommunication has become standard. E.g. writing/finishing publications by iteration of LaTeX files via e-mail is a common procedure

- this very proposal has been written this way to a good deal. In addition,"network-web-pages" will be implemented at all nodes, with coordination and assistance by the Vienna staff, to ensure that all information concerning the network is disseminated efficiently and fast (announcements for workshops/network meetings, preprint server (at F1, Dauphine), training activities (lecture notes etc), advertising of positions,...)

Workshops and network meetings

are already operational within HYKE. These will periodically meet in small-scale workshops, inviting also the concerned SAB member(s), in order to evaluate the achievements of the working groups and dynamically update their objectives. In particular, the working groups may be reconfigured to appropriately cover the whole area of the proposed research.

Network meetings, at least one per year, will have a broader scope and the additional task to evaluate and foster the collaborations on a higher level.

Research visits of staff and exchange of pre/post doctoral students

International exchange of researchers between partner institutions within the network will guarantee the most effective synergetic use of knowledge and methods of the entire network.

Reciprocal research visits of a duration up to several weeks help to adopt the appropriate method and share the work according to the different approaches pursued by the different groups. In addition, we expect that some of the postdoctoral researchers can be found within the rising scientific generation of the partner groups. This will reinforce the cooperation on the senior staff level and create new working power to accomplish the work programme.

Training

Both during the above mentioned research visits and at the workshops and broader meetings the senior researchers will give not only talks about latest progress on the work within the network, but also seminars for the training of advanced students about their respective special fields and methods.

The organization of this training collaboration will be steered by the training committee in which all the different geographic regions of the network are represented.
