Training
Appointment of Young Researchers :
A minimum overall total of 576 person-months will be provided by young researchers whose employment will be financed by the contract.
The breakdown of this overall total is shown in the following table.

Different types of (Pre/)Post-Doc appointments:
There will be several "types" of Pre/Post-doc appointments :
i) long term Pre/Post Docs (about
a year) at one team combined with short visits to other teams
(more feasible for "different methodology" training/work).
ii) mid/long (about 6 months) term Post/Pre docs at different
teams/satellites (mainly 2, if needed 3 teams) (more feasible
for interdisciplinary work/training).
iii) short term Post Docs (1-3 months) (focused work on particular
tasks of the work programme).
Particularly YRs from outside of the network will be employed according to one of the first two possibilities, whereas the "short term post docs" will rather come from within the network.
Publication of vacancies :
The coordinator and the ITEC (IT
and e-publishing committee) are currently setting up a state-of-the-art
web-page for the HYKE network, where openings for post-doc positions
and grants for doctoral students from all teams of this network
will be posted. Vacancies will also be listed in the individual
homepage of the respective team). In parallel these vacancies
will also be published via CORDIS, in the Newsletter of the European
and American Mathematical Society (EMS, AMS) and many more.
Training Committee (TC)
The TC assists TOs (Team Organizers) and CO in all training aspects and helps actively the groups in finding young researchers, e.g. in advertisement of open positions. The TC is geographically and scientifically balanced, as far as possible without becoming inefficiently large. The precise internal rules and tasks of the training committee will be finalized by itself, in consultation with CO and SiC, when the contract negotiation phase is reached and eventually new aspects of the ERA are implemented by the commission.
The TC systematically monitors the Pre/Postdoc hiring : every TO informs the TC by e-mail with a few lines, including a vita and publication list, about a Pre/Postdoc sHe hires. Also, each TO sends the TC an individual training programme for each network Pre/Postdoc where he addresses why the training at a certain satellite of his team is beneficial for the young researcher and for fulfilling the HYKE workprogramme, addressing the research objectives that will be tackled, as far as it makes sense in advance.
Equal opportunities
A special role is given to a female
TC member who in addition to the general tasks also serves as
the female representative in the TC :
In order to foster gender balance, in case of equal scientific
qualification among several applicants, female candidates will
be preferred. The female representative has the duty to inform
the TC in case she detects a violation of this rule in the pending
appointment of a Pre/Postdoc by a TO. The TC then has to discuss
the case and make a formal vote. In case the TC votes against
the female representative she has the right to inform the CO who
will consult the head of the TC and the TO involved and help to
implement a solution. The mere existence of such a formal procedure
is expected to prevent any problem in this respect.
Training Programme
The training that will be
offered is on the one hand in the various mathematical aspects
of hyperbolic and kinetic equations, with a complementary aspect
concerning "modeling, analysis, numerics". On the other
hand, a particular emphasis will be laid on a wide range of "applications"
thus leading to interdisciplinary aspects, in particular in fields
of physics and engineering as well as computer science aspects.
The training programme of the proposed network is articulated
in two key actions.
5.1 HYKE Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships
As is detailed above, the employment
of young researchers will be through the HYKE Predoctoral and
Postdoctoral Fellowships.
The knowledge and abilities of the employed YRs will be advanced
by
For predoctoral researchers the model of "dual advisorship"
will be strongly promoted. As a general goal, PhDs in connection
with the HYKE network will be "European doctorates".
The young researchers employed by the network will have the opportunity
to improve their organisational and management skills, in particular
those employed at the coordinating team. The young researchers
will be encouraged to participate in the development of software
for numerical methods.
5.2 "Summer" Schools
Several summer/winter schools per
year will be organized during the duration of the network contract.
A good deal of the networking money will be reserved for financing
the YRs participation in these events.
The summer schools will coordinated by the Training Commitee and
will be advertised in the same way as the postdoctoral positions.
